32-Hour Sonographer - NSPG Salem/Rowley/Lynn


We are seeking a Sonographer to cover three of our practices:

  • Cardiovascular Medicine - 331 Highland Avenue Salem, MA

  • Family Medicine/Radiology - 414 Haverhill Street Rowley, MA 01969

  • Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center - 480 Lynnfield Street Lynn, MA 01904

General Summary

Under the administrative direction of the Administrative Director of Cardiology and the Radiology Manager the Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist performs adult diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures at a level of competence not requiring constant supervision. The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist is responsible to work with the peers daily on the patient procedure schedule.

The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist ensures compliance with patient care quality standards. Assists with performance improvement activities within the department. Maintains efficient department operations while following compliance with all ICAEL, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.


  • Perform Adult Cardiac Ultrasound Procedure imaging on patients 16 years of age and older
  • Assist cardiologist during Transesophageal Ultrasound Procedures
  • Calls patients to confirm appointments/schedule procedures
  • Coordinates diagnostic tests, tracks appointments visits, monitors authorizations and daily schedules
  • Follows HIPAA Guidelines for the management of patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Files/purges/locks all patient related material in a timely manner
  • Ensures confidentiality is maintained
  • Provide cross coverage to other departments and/or positions, as appropriate
  • Provides basic information to patients, and families and referring physicians
  • Performs reception responsibilities, greet and direct patient/visitors
  • Provides cross coverage for other team members
  • Check patients in, check patients out, enters patient orders per department protocol
  • Maintains a professional relationship and cooperative rapport with co-workers, other health care professionals, supervisors and others in positions of authority
  • Communicates in a professional manner with emphasis on interacting positively and respectfully with patients, visitors and others
  • Provides basic information and instructions to patients regarding the department and the Hospital. Arranges for transport, interpreter and other services as required by the patients
  • Schedules, reschedules or cancels patient appointments using an automated or manual system
  • Ensures patient forms are completed accurately
  • Performs order entry
  • Maintains physical environment, maintains a clean work area
  • Performs and participates in special projects as directed
  • Acts as a liaison with other hospital departments and PHS affiliates
  • Participates in department or hospital wide committees as assigned
  • Collects data and generates quality assurance reports as requested
  • Maintains competencies through: regular participation in service education programs; demonstrates understanding of Code Blue, Fire and Disaster Plan and Infection Control Policies
  • Identifies and reports safety concerns/hazards to supervisor
  • Wears identification badge according to policy
  • Complies with attendance policies and procedures; including but not limited to requesting time off in advance, providing proper notification to appropriate individuals and recording hours worked as required (using ID badge to punch in/out)
  • Manages time properly, is punctual for appointments. Is ready to work at the start of the assigned shifts
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives and quality assurance program
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the department, such as statistics and monthly Q.A. reports
  • Demonstrates technical skill and proficiency in the performance of all cardiac ultrasound procedures
  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all ultrasound equipment (ultrasound machine, digital work station)
  • Accurately fills out the preliminary report on all echocardiograms performed
  • Properly completes all required steps to process an echocardiogram after completion in a timely matter
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately obtain all necessary data needed for any quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately derive from the study the necessary quantitative analysis
  • Always thoroughly explains the procedure about to be performed to facilitate consideration and relieve patient anxiety; addresses patients concern, explains, instructs and communicates to patients the nature of the procedure
  • As required, participates in the Quality Assurance Program
  • Regularly performs on-call duties
  • Regularly performs holiday coverage
  • Consistently demonstrates good judgement in safety practices to protect self and others; wears protective clothing; and utilizes protective shielding as necessary
  • Assumes personal responsibility for ongoing personal education and personal development.   
  • Includes the duties and responsibilities of the Cardiac Sonographer level 1
  • Has one additional skill set in ultrasound imaging. Performs pediatric cardiac ultrasound imaging and is required to performs pediatric cardiac ultrasound imaging as part of their responsibilities; and/or performs vascular ultrasound imaging and is required to performs vascular ultrasound imaging as part of their responsibilities.      



Required: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)


Required: Completion of a Cardiac Diagnostic Ultrasound education program, with specialized knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, physics, principles and procedures.


Required: 1 years of ultrasound experience in each imaging specialty

Preferred: experience in Cardiac ultrasound (echo) procedures required, preferably 3+ years in each imaging specialty.
