Journeyman Plumber

Overview

Under general supervision and according to established procedures; installs, inspects, replaces, tests, and performs a wide variety of plumbing tasks to maintain the supply and integrity of the natural gas, steam, water, sanitary and medical gas distribution systems and equipment throughout the Hospital facilities. In doing so, studies blueprints to determine kind and size of pipes to use, cuts pipes along layout markings, and fits and seals valves and other pipe parts. Runs and tests water lines and inspects all connections for leaks and maintains logbook for repairs and readings.


Performs minor H.V.A.C., and or Mechanical tasks as required, when related to standard plumbing duties. In doing so, studies blueprints to determine kind andsize of pipes to use, cuts pipes along layout markings, and fits and sealsvalves and other pipe parts. Runs andtests water lines and inspects all connections for leaks and maintains logbookfor repairs and readings.


Qualifications

Required:
  • Good interpersonal skills; goodwritten and verbal communication skills; analytical skills; ability to identifybasic colors; ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail
  • Approximatelythree to five years related experience necessary in order to gain fullknowledge of installation, testing, repair and maintenance of plumbing systemsand equipment, and all applicable codes.
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Trade or vocational school training with courses in mechanics, plumbing, blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, shop mathematics, with special emphasis on plumbing and gas fitting.
  • Ability to read and write, perform noncomplex arithmetic calculations, read blueprints as well as understand basic theories related to plumbing at a level generally acquired through completion of up to one year of technical training beyond high school.
  • Approximately three to five years related experiencenecessary in order to gain full knowledge of installation, testing, repair andmaintenance of plumbing systems and equipment, and all applicable codes.

  • Must know current State and National Plumbing and Gas Codes
  • Must maintainvalid Massachusetts Journeyman Plumber license..
