General Overview

Sleep Disorder Services
Sleep is a crucial part of living a healthy life style. Many sleep conditions, such as sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome and narcolepsy can be diagnosed through a sleep evaluation. The team of board-certified sleep medicine physicians and registered sleep technologists at the Sleep Center at North Shore Medical Center use advanced monitoring techniques to detect, diagnose and treat sleep disorders.

Sleep Center at North Shore Medical Center
Our pulmonologists work closely with the Sleep Center, which offers hotel-style rooms that provide comfort and privacy. During your stay your breathing and movement will be monitored and recorded, After the sleep study is complete, your physician will follow-up care with you.

Home Sleep Testing
Home tests monitor breathing and oxygen levels and records pauses in breathing known as apneas, while patients sleep in the comfort of your own home. The information gathered during the test provides our sleep medicine physicians with the information needed to diagnose sleep disorders and prepare patients for appropriate treatment.

Pulmonary Services
Our physicians provide inpatient pulmonary consultations at NSMC Salem Hospital and work closely with NSMC hospitalist physicians to evaluate, diagnose and treat pulmonary disorders. Critically ill patients are cared for by our physicians and the critical care team in the intensive care unit at NSMC Salem Hospital. This unit provides state-of-the-art care for patients with respiratory failure and multi-system disease.

Critical Care Services
Critically ill patients are cared for by our physicians and critical care teams in the intensive care units at NSMC Salem Hospital and NSMC Union Hospital. These units provide state-of-the-art care for patients with respiratory failure and multi-system diseases.


For this role, we are seeking a Medical Assistant for Pulmonary, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine Office located on the campus of Salem Hospital. This role would be supporting Sameer C. Shah, MD, the Medical Director of Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Shah is Board Certified in Internal Medicine,and Pulmonary Disease.

This Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting Dr. Shah with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during and between office visits and other tasks consistent with his / her training and skills. His / her primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the office; function as a "flow manager"; to maintain neat, clean, and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.



- Completion of a formal program in Medical Assisting OR Matriculation in, or graduate of, an Associates' or Bachelor's degree program in nursing (RN). Nursing students must have completed fundamentals of nursing skills, lab, and at least one clinical rotation in medical / surgical nursing.


- 2 years of experience in a related physician's office setting is preferred.
