Overview

The Senior Improvement Specialist functions as a lead facilitator, educator and coach for the implementation of Lean management across the organization. Leads improvement work across North Shore Physicians Group (NSPG), including office based and organization wide initiatives. NSPG is a large, community-based, multispecialty medical group with 25 practice affiliated with North Shore Medical Center.

  • Works in partnership with providers, staff, practice managers and senior leadership to develop improvement strategies and ensure adherence to the principles of Lean thinking, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and selected value streams for the organization.
  • Trains and coaches others throughout the organization in Lean principles and methods.
  • Serves as the lead organizational resource for improvement training and facilitation.
  • May be asked to present, educate, and facilitate at all levels in the organization as well as to external audiences.
  • Provide supports to teams through observation, data analysis, and improvement, development of tests of change, implementation of standard work, and evaluation of impact.
  • Leads Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIWs) and Kaizen Events as directed by Executive Leadership.
  • Facilitates and coaches team to report out on results of improvement.
  • Functions as a leader for organizational change using Lean production methods.



Qualifications

Skills:


- Required:


o Strong leadership, facilitation, interpersonal, team building, project management, written/verbal communication, and conflict resolution skills.


o Willingness to challenge the status quo to ensure lean principles are implemented, as well as be able to understand the organizational change strategy and articulate this to audiences.


o Excellent organization and time management skills to lead and monitor project progress.


o Ability to exert leadership and influence without direct authority with participating staff, providers and front-line managers.


o Excellent presentation skills, as well as highly effective verbal and written communication skills.


o Expertise in lean improvement concepts, tools and methods.


o Computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other programs as needed


o Ability to complete work under pressure and to meet deadlines.


- Preferred: Project Management


Experience:


- Required: Demonstrated success in leading results-driven organizational projects, 3 years of Lean/Six Sigma (or similar experience) or 5+ years of progressive health care experience


- Preferred: 1+ year of direct clinical care experience


Education/Degree requirements:


- Required: Bachelors Degree


- Preferred: Masters Degree is Business, Health Administration, Nursing, Public Health or System Engineering


Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:


- Required: Lean Certification or equivalent designation (e.g. Six Sigma, Improvement Advisor, etc)
