We are located at 102 Endicott St, Suite 104, in Danvers, MA. In this Non-Surgical Orthopedics specialty, our physicians partner with Salem Hospital to offer non-surgical approaches to treat a variety of orthopedic and sports medicine related conditions. We care for athletes and active people of all ages and skill levels, from professional to recreational, middle school to college, endurance to multi-sport.

General Overview

Our Certified Athletic Trainer/Medical Assistants play an integral part in the operations of our community-based physician practices. Dedicated to clinical support, the Certified Athletic Trainer/Medical Assistant ensures smooth patient flow within the practice and assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of physician or advanced practitioner.

For outreach functions and duties, the Athletic Trainer functions within the limits of their licensure as defined within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (MGL Chapter 112: Section 23A and CMR 259 - 4.00) to schools, teams or organizations with whom NSPG has a contractual relationship with for the provision of Athletic Training Services. Provides athletic training evaluation, intervention and documentation for adolescent through adult populations as indicated.

Assists with program development and community programs. Acts as a clinical resource to staff.

Jos Specific Responsibilities

Performs the following clinical tasks following the direction/delegation by a physician or advanced practitioner:

  • Ensures proper set up for musculoskeletal ultrasound and injections
  • Application and removal of splints and braces as directed by the physician or nurse practitioner
  • Provides patient education as directed by the physician or nurse practitioner:
    • Crutch training
    • Demonstrate procedures
    • Instructs patients in their care of the injury
    • Provides patient educational materials as directed by the provider regarding health maintenance, normal body functions, injury prevention, strength and conditioning
  • Assists the physician or nurse practitioner with work outside the visit related to managing patients
  • Performs designated tasks related to tracking test results and may communicate normal test results to patients as directed by a physician or nurse practitioner
  • Receives patient messages, reviews these with physicians, nurse practitioners or nurses per practice protocols, and takes action as directed
  • Faxes, mails, or telephones in prescription renewals as directed by the prescribing provider and under the supervision of the prescriber or a nurse
  • Assists physicians or nurse practitioners in coordinating care and making referrals
  • Ensures that referring providers and Physical Therapists receive consult notes
  • Represents NSPG through the provision of contracted athletic trainer services, event coverage or at other athletic functions by:
    • Responding appropriately to emergency medical situations as an Athletic Trainer providing injury recognition and management in a timely fashion
    • Planning, implementing, evaluating and modifying appropriate preconditioning, conditioning, and reconditioning programs for athletes as defined in MGL c. 112, s. 23A.
    • The design, construction and application of supportive and/or protective devices for the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries
    • Educating athletes in methods of preventing athletic injuries



  • Graduate of an accredited Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Program
  • Certification by the NATA as a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Maintain or obtain CPR certification
  • Must be able to regularly perform work at the heavy physical demand level.
  • Understands and developmental needs of the adolescent through geriatric populations.
  • Knowledge of providing care for athletes and patients with bone and joint issues and other sports related needs


  • One year experience
  • In addition to the required degree, an Associates Degree or completion of a Medical Assistant program. Nursing Assistant certification or other healthcare preparation will be considered.
