Overview

A Pharmacy Intern, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assists in the various activities of the pharmacy department that may or may not require the professional judgment of the pharmacist. Such duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining patient profiles; setting up, packaging, and labeling medication doses; filling and dispensing routine orders for stock supplies for patient care areas; maintaining inventories of drug supplies; and preparing drugs including intravenous infusions. A pharmacy intern functions in strict accordance with standard written procedures and guidelines as mandated by state and federal regulatory agencies. Any deviation from which must be approved by the pharmacy intern's supervising pharmacist on duty. A pharmacy intern acting under the direct supervision of an approved registered pharmacy preceptor may supervise pharmacy technicians.


Qualifications

Required:

-Accepting students in the 1-6 years of and an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally, read and write English proficiently.
  • Previous experiences preferred in either a retail or hospital pharmacy. Has been offered a position as a pharmacist @ NSMC contingent upon the successful completion of the Massachusetts Pharmacy licensing exam within six months of graduation from a college/school of pharmacy. For unsuccessful passing of the Massachusetts Pharmacy licensing exam, NSMC reserves the right to terminate to terminate current employment.
  • Completed two years of education, or achieved standing as a student beyond the second year, in an approved college/school of pharmacy in which the candidate is currently enrolled. Must be eligible to take the Massachusetts Pharmacy licensing exam in the event s/he is in the last year of college/school of pharmacy.
  • Required State of Massachusetts License by the Board of Registration in Pharmacy - Pharmacy Intern. Must be registered with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern prior to employment as a pharmacy intern.
