Physician Liaison/Recruiter - North Shore Physicians Group


North Shore Physicians Group (NSPG) is an affiliate of Salem Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham. We are the largest multi-specialty group north of Boston, with more than 350 board-certified physicians, nurse practitioner and other health care professionals in 27 locations throughout the North Shore.

General Summary

The Physician Liaison/Recruiter (PLR) reports directly to the Director of Physician Services of NSPG and serves as an integral member of the NSPG Physician Recruiting Team helping to spread the overall vision, culture, and strategic goals of NSPG. The PLR will serve as a liaison and advocate between the physicians of NSPG, health system administrators, and physician candidates and must excel at exercising discretion and independent judgement on behalf of the NSPG Physician Recruiting Team. The position also includes, but is not limited to, developing an internal recruitment framework to source and identify specific candidates for open physician positions, and will have direct responsibility to find qualified candidates through strategic sourcing and screening.

In addition, the PLR will assist in physician recruitment planning, be the point person for managing the applicant tracking systemg, ensuring successful recruitment and arrangement of all on-site physician candidate visits including detailed itineraries that provide appropriate site visits, lodging accommodations and contact information. The PLR will also have the resposibility for effectively managing and processing expenses for Physician Recruiting. The PLR will work closely with Senior Leadership, the recruitment team and administration to maintain, prepare and analyze all physician recrtuiment data.

The position will also require assisting with the promotion of NSPG practices to physician specialties affiliated with NSMC/Partners Healthcare, enhancing communication with physicians to improve the physician, staff and patient satisfaction with NSPG. The PLR will use a proactive and detailed approach to problem solving and maintain the ability to drive physician recruitment initiatives and build partnerships across functions and throughout the organization. Additionally, the PLR will establish and build trusted relationships across the NSPG sites and with key leaders throughout the organization and assist with providing a polished communication framework to inform and influence, serving as an extension of the NSPG Physician Recruitment Team in staying connected to key physician recruitment initiatives across the organization.   

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • The PLR participates in the active recruitment process within NSPG by evaluating physician manpower needs within NSPG and NSMC working with Senior Leadership, administration and physician leaders.
  • Assists in the coordination of recruitment efforts including working with physicians, recruiters and administrative staff to ensure appropriate identification of candidates, screening and interviewing of candidates.
  • Works closely with Chiefs/Chairs of Service and Medical Directors to promote NSPG/NSMC to the physician population.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of strategies to enhance the communication and relationships among physicians and staff.
  • Effectively prioritizes among multiple competing priorities in rapid response to a fluctuating work environment.
  • Promotes and utilizes the most efficient, appropriate and effective communication tools, taking care to customize approach to individual physician, leadership and staff preferences.
  • Posts, updates and manages all job postings on the NSPG Website, Internet job boards/sites, and physician networking sites to attract qualified candidates.
  • Improves communication throughout NSPG through personal contact via office visits, correspondence, and phone calls with Administrative Directors, Practice Mangers and Physicians, including routine or follow-up visits/phone calls to providers throughout their employment term.
  • Arranges for formal and informal meetings or dinners between potential recruits and existing providers or Chiefs of Service/Medical Directors including all site visits.
  • Assists in the coordination of all recruitment activities including tours of key areas of interest within the NSPG service area.
  • Ensures physician and candidate arrangements during pre-interview, interview and post-interview are conducted without incident.
  • Builds relationships with medical training programs and professional associations by attending job fairs and conferences. Plans recruitment events to target specific training programs to create a pipeline of resident and fellow candidates.
  • Researches regional and national physician hiring trends and practices as well as competitor's activities to keep informed of changes impacting NSPG’s ability to hire and retain top physician talent.
  • Coordinates and disseminates information about NSPG and serves as a trusted source of information.
  • Develops recruitment packages including "key materials" in conjunction with the marketing department to ensure optimal success in recruitment efforts re: NSPG and NSMC and the comprehensive services offered.
  • Works with the Director of Physician Services and Senior Physician Recruiter/Liaison in the identification, interview coordination, and recruitment follow-up with identified recruitment firms and candidates.
  • Provides administrative support for the Director of Physician Services and the NSPG Physician Recruitment team by managing calendars, coordinating recruitment and contract related mailings, and scheduling meetings.
  • Point person to manage the Recruitment Management System (RMS) applicant tracking system for all physician candidates, agencies, vendors and jobs.
  • Maintains electronic filing system to include all information related to recruitment activities, including all contracts, invoices and expenses.
  • Prepare and analyze all data regarding physician recruitment activity and efforts
  • Processes all invoices for the NSPG Physician Recruitment Department and expenses for Physician candidates to ensure timely payment to all vendors and candidates.
  • Participates in improvement events to continue enhancing NSPG and NSMC recruitment process, strategy and candidate experience.
  • Supports Partners Talent Acquisition by coordinating and organizing Advanced Practitioner candidate visits to NSPG to enhance the interview experience and serves as a liaison between Talent Acquisition and NSPG administration to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality within the group and community of all strategic and other information regarding physicians, practices and the medical center.
  • Navigates difficult situations in a constructive manner with respect and compassion.
  • In spreading the NSPG people-first culture, acts as a resource for new physicians and employees of NSPG by supporting a transparent and open communication channel to the Office of the President of NSPG and Senior Leadership
  • Follows HIPAA Guidelines for the management of patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Promotes and informs providers of the NSPG/NSMC customer service standards of behaviors.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the NSPG and the health system's mission, vision and values.
  • Serves as good will ambassador for NSPG, NSMC and the Partners HealthCare family.
  • May perform other administrative or supervisory duties as assigned.



Required: Bachelor’s degree


Required: Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, knowledge of marketing principles, ability to balance physician and hospital needs while remaining poised and assertive; knowledge of physician practices. Must project a professional image. Ability to interact and effectively communicate with physicians and staff of various levels throughout the organization. Develop an internal recruitment program to source potential candidates. Recruit candidates by reviewing their resumes and qualifications. Select qualified candidates to be interviewed after ensuring the candidates qualifications and skills meet the requirments for the job opening. Develop relationships with residency and fellowship programs, directors and the residents and fellows to source candidates for newly posted positions. Participate in the evaluation of physician manpower needs within NSPG. Working with administrative and physician leaders; participate in the active recruitment process within the system. Understanding of Employment Laws and ability to work closely with Human Resources representatives once employment offer is signed.

Preferred: Background in physician or employee recruiting or sales.


Required: Experience working in health care with direct interaction with physicians and other providers.

Preferred: Experience in marketing or public relations.
