8-10 Hour Vascular Ultrasound Tech - NSPG Salem/Rowley

Overview

We are seeking a Vascular Tech to work 8-10 hours every Friday, covering two of our sites:

  • Cardiovascular Medicine - 331 Highland Avenue Salem, MA
  • Family Medicine/Radiology - 414 Haverhill Street Rowley, MA 01969

General Summary:

Under the administrative direction of the Medical Director of Vascular Ultrasound, the Vascular Ultrasound Technologist performs vascular ultrasound procedures at a level of competence not requiring constant supervision to technical detail. Assumes responsibility for designated areas, procedures and students as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates imaging equipment correctly per procedure.
  • Maintains a good work pace and is productive according to established departmental thresholds.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. Explains procedure, reassuring patient and securing his/her full cooperation during testing. Relays information to physician without alarming patient. Reports changes in patients’ condition or behavior to physician.
  • Completes testing for both in-and-outpatients; in the department, the emergency ward, and on the floors. Responsible for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the assigned shift.
  • Lifts, moves transports and positions patients for diagnostic studies.
  • Completes routine procedures in the required time frame. Reports any incomplete assignments to ensure continuity of procedure. Completes work from previous shift, and assists others as requested and permitted.
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping department in a clean, neat and orderly condition.
  • Completes necessary paperwork/ computer work on each examination performed as directed, including, but not limited to: documentation for physician and hospital billing.
  • Handles routine questions from referring physicians, patients and families.
  • Adheres to hospital wide standards and department specific standards for service excellence, including, but not limited to: identification of and response to customer needs, appropriate communication, protection of patient privacy and confidentiality, etc.
  • Maintains a professional relationship and cooperative rapport with co-workers, other healthcare professionals, supervisors and others in positions of authority.
  • Communicates in a professional manner with particular emphasis on interacting positively and respectfully with patients, visitors and others. Responds constructively to feedback from any customer group (patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians, departments, etc.).
  • Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift. Adjusts and revises schedule, as necessary, in view of; stat orders, admissions, outpatient walk-ins, and fluctuations in patient workload. Assists in other areas of department work, filling in clerical work, working on projects, assisting others, studying or learning new procedures, responding to emergency situations, tracking QA and QI, etc.
  • Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for operations improvements in a positive manner. Contributes to department problem solving with a "team" perspective.
  • Documents problems in department for Quality Improvement review.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of policies and procedures concerning Imaging Technologist responsibilities as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
  • Assumes responsibility for continuing professional education and development. Keeps up-to-date best practices for Profession.
  • Maintains all licensure, certification and/or registration required for the position. Maintains competencies through regular participation in service education programs.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Code Blue, Fire and Disaster Plan and Infection Control Policies; demonstrates proficiency in technical and RMS skills and PACS.
  • Regularly obtains and shares information from other technologists or supervisors.
  • Assists in on-the-job training of students as assigned.
  • Assists with ensuring the safe operation and compliance with State, Federal and ICVAL requirements, regulations and standards.
  • Observes radiation safety techniques, including use of protective shielding, handling and disposal of pharmaceuticals. Takes appropriate precautions to minimize exposure to infectious, radioactive or biohazard agents.
  • Strictly obeys hospital infection control procedures; maintains personal hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Follows safe work practices to ensure proper care and use of hospital equipment, vehicles, etc. Identifies and reports safety concerns/hazards to supervisor.
  • Responds to emergency situation/codes immediately and performs in a calm and professional manner.
  • Wears identification badge according to policy.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient records and uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
  • Complies with attendance policies and procedures; including but not limited to requesting time off in advance, providing proper notification to appropriate individuals and recording hours worked as required (using ID badge to punch in/out). Manages time in order to be punctual for appointments and ready to work at the start of the assigned shifts.

Qualifications

Licensure

Required: Registration or registration eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Vascular Ultrasound

Education

Required: Satisfactory completion of a formal Vascular Ultrasound Training program

Experience

Preferred: A minimum of one year of experience as a sonographer
